Act now: Reject the static story!

Most businesses are rich in data, the data evolves, it moves, it changes direction, it is  dynamic, it grows. Smart businesses have departments dedicated to data. Smart data departments churn out smart dashboards and smart reviews on a weekly basis, smartly. The data is just data, a static story waiting to be told.

 

Your business is defined by what it does with the static story. Some businesses simply do nothing. Some businesses move very quickly to apply logic to data, sales are down, it’s the weather, the planets aren’t aligned, the dog ate my homework.

 

Applying logic to data in insolation reduces the credibility of your business story. The data isn’t yet insight, it’s just a static story. A word of caution about the danger of the static story, if said with enough conviction, these things soon become true, if repeated enough they become the principle focus of many.
