Need an analogy? Use an Octopus.

It seems even Buzzfeed see the beauty of an Octopus . When talking about their recent acquisition of Huffpost, BuzzFeed’s commercial director for Europe Casey McDevitt discusses being an “octopus climbing a tree – you always need to have an extra arm climbing to the next branch before that snaps”. Essentially what this means for Buzzfeed is that they knew that  if they relied  too much on what’s doing great right now, things quickly change.

Here at Collective Stories we also use an Octopus to describe how category projects can often become unwieldy particularly when large amounts of data are involved. We describe how this situation can feel like putting an octopus in a shopping bag, a tentacle always tries to escape.

Entirely up to you how and if you use the Octopus. We truly believe that using the right analogy can drive focus and bring a moment of levity to sometimes complicated situations.
